• Manage aquatic animal research for four NC State professors. Oversee experiments for all graduate and undergraduate students under these professors. Schedule and oversee use of research facilities to accommodate experiments and allow research to move forward in a timely manor. Maintain experimental conditions to insure valid experimental results.

• Conduct daily maintenance. Repair existing equipment. Design new and/or modify existing aquaculture systems to accommodate different experiment requirements. Repair and maintain lab vehicles and boats.

• Conduct daily on-campus aquatic animal husbandry activities. Maintain water quality within acceptable parameters. Diagnose and treat aquatic animal diseases. Yearly cycling of brood stock to insure production of aquatic animals for future research. Spawn brood stock and perform all activities associated with fingerling production.

• Manage daily activities of research technician and hourly labor. Develop and evaluate work plans and performance appraisals.

• Yearly spawning of Morone species at our marine field lab for genetic enhancement of striped bass, white bass, and white perch. Perform biopsies and stage eggs to determine viability. Inject relevant hormones to induce ovulation, and continually observe of egg stages for successful spawning of fish. Participate in the jarring, cleaning, and hatching of eggs. Perform pond preparation and monitor algae blooms. Stock ponds with fry and monitor success rates.

• Currently responsible for the design, preparation of blue prints, and construction of North Carolina State University’s new 7,000 square foot aquatic research facility. Accountable for the preparation of electrical, HVAC, and aquaculture system designs. Communicate with vendors and contractors for the formulation of estimates to develop a budget. Balance all budgets pertaining to the project. Prepare all forms and follow all procedures involved with meeting building codes and compensating vendors and subcontractors. Supervision of subcontractors and laborers. Hands on construction of all components of the aquaculture systems.
