Aquaculture Wholesale Market Report

Week Ending May 9, 1997        

HIGHLIGHTS

This report is for the week ending May 9, 1997. In general, the reported prices were lower except for dressed rainbow trout, whole Atlantic salmon and boned coho salmon which were higher. Whole steelhead trout, dressed catfish and catfish nuggets were unchanged in price. The reported volumes were mixed with catfish fillets, dressed catfish, rainbow trout fillets, Atlantic salmon fillets and boned coho salmon with higher volumes. Catfish nuggets, whole tilapia, boned redmeat trout and whole steelhead were unchanged in volume. No boned golden trout or whole turbot were reported. Red meat trout fillets reappeared. Whole dorade from the Mediterranean was reported for the first time.

Shell oysters were unchanged in price and volume. Hard clams were 1 cent per clam lower and 1,400 clams lower in volume. Mussels were 1 cents per pound less and 100 pounds less in volume. Black tiger shrimp were 58 cents per pound higher and 1,440 pounds higher in volume.

The Northeast live market was generally unchanged except no hybrid striped bass was reported and tilapia was 12 cents per pound less and 6,000 pounds higher in volume.
