BIBLIOGRAPHY OF RESOURCE MATERIALS
ON HACCP AND QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR THE AQUACULTURE SECTOR

Compiled by: Gary L. Jensen
US Department of Agriculture/Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service

Introduction

Recent federal actions have resulted in mandatory HACCP-based inspection regulations for seafood, poultry and meat processors. As these firms develop and implement HACCP programs required under the new regulations, plants will likely need certain reliable information about the background of incoming, raw aquatic food animals . This will have a ripple effect throughout the aquaculture production chain. Because of the need for industry to transition into this new regulatory food safety regime there is a critical demand for educational products, training and public-private sector collaboration. The U.S. university community, private industry and federal/state agencies have cooperatively developed or assisted to develop a variety of educational and training products in addition to offering technical expertise and assistance relating to HACCP and QA for the aquaculture sector. The purpose of this bibliography is to direct persons, firms or interested parties to specific products that can serve as valuable resources to understand, teach, implement or evaluate aquaculture-related HACCP and QA programs. Publications developed by any of the USDA Regional Aquaculture Centers can be obtained from the authors or designated aquaculture extension contacts in all states and territories. There are numerous other resources available on the topics of HACCP and QA. For more information contact your state Cooperative Extension Service or Sea Grant Marine Advisory Service, seafood trade organizations, regional offices of the Food and Drug Administration or National Marine Fisheries Service. Costs are for shipping and postage in the U.S. Any additional costs for postage and shipping for orders outside of the U.S. can be obtained directly from the source institution or person referenced.
