NOAA Seeking Nominations for Stewardship & Sustainability Awards

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has established the Stewardship & Sustainability Awards to recognize outstanding
performance, achievements and leadership by industries, organizations and individuals that promote best stewardship practices for the sustainable use of
living marine resources and foster a stewardship ethic within their community.

Administered by NOAA Fisheries Service, the Stewardship & Sustainability Awards reflect the values and principles of NOAA Fisheries Service and its
mission to ensure sustainable management of living marine resources for the benefit of the nation.  The first series of these annual awards will be
announced in February 2006, in conjunction with the anniversary of the agency’s predecessor, the U.S. Commission of Fish and Fisheries (established in
February 1871).

NOAA hopes that nominations will be submitted by a broad range of marine fisheries stakeholders including industry, environmental or trade organizations,
individuals and government agencies involved in the use, conservation, science and management of living marine resources.  Nominees will be considered
for the following awards:

• Special Recognition Award
• Stewardship and Sustainability Award
• Conservation Partnership Award
• Science, Research and Technology Award
• Coastal Habitat Restoration Award
• Public Education, Community Service & Media Award

The deadline for nominations is January 10, 2006.  For more information, contact Laurel.Bryant@noaa.gov, or visit:

Eligibility
The awards program is open to industry sectors, organizations, individuals, state, local and federal government agencies and their employees. Organizations, individuals and agencies cannot nominate themselves. Employees of NOAA Fisheries Service are not eligible to receive an award under any category. The awarding of categories will be entirely dependent on the pool of eligible candidates received and the agency's determination as to their qualifications. As such, there may be years in which one or more categories are not awarded.
