New Organic Agriculture Information Products
from AFSIC
The Alternative Farming Systems Information Center (AFSIC) has just released two
new Information Products: Organic Livestock Production: A Bibliography(Special
Reference Brief 2004-05) and Organic Aquaculture (AFSIC Note #5). Both
were created by the AFSIC staff at the National Agricultural Library in response
to a significant level of interest in these two subjects.
Organic Livestock Production describes more than 900 documents published between
1974 and 2004. Citations come from many sources: bibliographic databases,
conference proceedings, Extension publication lists, research archives, and
more. Chapters, arranged by animal species, include
sub-headings: Animal Husbandry and Welfare, Veterinary Practice, Certification,
Economic Issues, Marketing, Processing and Food Quality.
Links to online documents are provided where available. The guide is
fullyindexed. Appendices discuss the USDA National Organic Program and how to
obtain full-text articles listed in the bibliography.
Organic Aquaculture addresses the important issues pertaining to organic
aquaculture with regard to production technology, standards and laws,
environmental and economic sustainability, research and development, and markets
and trade. Each chapter concludes with "Suggested Readings;" a comprehensive,
indexed, bibliography appears as a separate section. Text and
references cover organic production in aquaculture; the current status of U.S.
standards; the National Organic Standards Board Aquatic Animal Task Force;
international organic aquaculture standards; marketing outlook and consumer
trends; and research and development.
