Request for Educational Materials on Aquaculture

Background
Ted Smith is a fellow sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities who spent 1 month with USDA-CSREES.  He has a special interest in aquaculture because of his current and past work and has agreed to assist updating the Resource Guide to Educational Materials About Agriculture.  This Resource Guide is made available to teachers throughout the United States to identify materials that can be considered for use in classroom and laboratory teaching.

The section on aquaculture of the current Resource Guide has few materials listed and we know that much more is available from a variety of sources.  Ted is taking the leadership to revise  the section on aquaculture in cooperation with the aquaculture team and Ag in the Classroom staff at USDA-CSREES.  This is an opportunity to showcase outstanding materials that can benefit teachers in the United States and improve classroom and laboratory teaching on subjects related to aquaculture.

Please review the FINAL REQUEST FOR MATERIALS and note the different categories of materials.  Forward your recommendations directly to Ted at his contact information listed below for any materials that may be included in the fifth revision of the Resource Guide. Submissions should be provided NO LATER THAN November 15, 2000.  The updated Resource Guide will serve as a good reference for anyone associated with educational or teaching programs involving aquaculture.  We will notify persons via aquacontacts mailgroup when the revised Guide is available sometime next year.

Thanks for your assistance in this important task.

CALL FOR EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS ABOUT AQUACULTURE

The Resource Guide to Educational Materials About Agriculture is a project of the Agriculture in the Classroom program. This program is a cooperative effort of representatives of agricultural organizations, State Departments of Agriculture, farm and growers organizations, educational organizations, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The Resource Guide to Educational Materials About Agriculture provides a listing of materials pertaining to agriculture and related issues available from private and public sources.  More subject matter targeting the specific program area of aquaculture is required.

In the continuing effort to assist regular classroom teachers in grades K-12 to incorporate more information about aquaculture into their teaching, we are soliciting new and updated materials regarding all aspects of aquaculture.  The materials and listings are divided into four sections:

1.  Printed Materials - curriculum, lesson plans, books, pamphlets, how-to manuals, lab
     manuals, activity and coloring books, and packets or kits of printed materials.
2.  Audiovisuals, Posters, and Teaching Kits - teaching kits, slide sets, videotapes,
     transparencies, posters, and computer software most with accompanying print materials.
3.  Resource Guides or Catalogs - other resource guides or catalogues, which include
     materials about aquaculture that are of interest to teachers.
4.  Miscellaneous - items which can enhance classroom presentations, intrigue students or State
     Ag in the Classroom programs.

The items presented in the Guide are listed by title, publisher/producer, grade level, format, description of content, and price and ordering information.  Except for some editing to conserve space, for consistency, or for clarity, the submitted information is as provided by the producer or
publisher in terms of content and completeness.  Inclusion in the Guide does not mean endorsement by the USDA.  The purpose of the Guide is to assemble information so that teachers can decide for themselves what will be useful in their classrooms.

Please submit all entries NO LATER THAN November, 15, 2000 to;
