• Sea Grant Study Shows Impact of New National Seafood Safety Control Program - The finding is part of a 65-page report on the costs, benefits and impacts of HACCP on the seafood industry that has been compiled by New York Sea Grant and which was funded through the National Seafood HACCP Alliance.

• Proposed Listing Atlantic Salmon in ME - For persons interested in issues associated with endangered species and interactions with aquaculture operations the following Federal Register notice is provided for your information.
• USDA-NASS 1998 Census of Aquaculture - Bound hard copies of the 1998 Census of Aquaculture are now available from the National Information Service 

• Initiative for Future Agriculture and Food Systems - The House Appropriations Committee inserted language into the supplemental
  appropriations bill that effectively defunds IFAFS. 

• The Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program (FSMIP) - Provides matching funds to State Departments of Agriculture and other State agencies for 20-30 projects per year. These funds have been used by States to conduct marketing studies or assist in developing innovative approaches to the marketing of agricultural products.

• National Food Safety Initiative (NFSI) - For those persons interested in food safety grant programs that can address aquatic foods, in addition to other products, the following describes a new USDA-CSREES National Food Safety Initiative and changes that have occurred from past CSREES food safety research and extension grant programs. The following information was developed by Jan Singleton, National Program Leader Food Science and Food Safety. This information can be used to initiate planning activities for preparing a proposal.
