IBP is a provider of biological oil from algae for second generation biodiesel. Algae consume carbon dioxide captured from a near-by industrial CO2 emitter and produce 30 times more oil than soybeans, along with a valuable high-protein co-product. Because IBP has proprietary algae strains and methods to grow and harvest algae in outdoor ponds, it believes it has much lower costs than other algae companies. IBP operates an open pond pilot at an Ohio power plant. The company is launching a second pilot plant in Texas and planning a 10-fold scale up from pilot to demonstration scale. The company is at an early stage with enormous potential for growth and profitability.

Position Description

The Director of Engineering will be a key member of the management team building the business. He/she will lead of design, cost-estimation, building and start-up of facilities. The Director of Engineering will assist in continual improvement and optimization of the systems. The position requires familiarity with a wide range of engineering disciplines, including civil, mechanical, chemical and basic electrical.

Duties

• Understand and assist in optimization of the systems installed at the pilot plant

• Design, build and start up second pilot plant and demonstration project

• Perform cost estimates for projects

• Produce engineering drawings

• Technical writing

• Lead permitting activities

• Interact with colleagues, customers, regulators and investors

Qualifications

• Engineering degree

• Experience with civil, mechanical, chemical and electrical engineering

• Project cost estimation, design, construction and start-up

• Ability to produce design documents and drawings

• Operations management experience preferred
